Piodas
Rough-hewn roofing tiles. Pioda roofing tiles are produced either with a standard length of 50cm and width of 20 to 40 cm, or in customised sizes (20/22/25/30 cm x 36/41/46 cm). Piodas range from 1 to 1.5 cm in thickness, depending on their size and they weigh from 60 to 90 kg/m2. The sawn ends are given a rough finish and supplied ready for laying. Nail holes or slots can also be added on request.
Piattoni
Present essentially the same characteristics as Piodas, but are rougher and thicker as they are extracted from blocks with less even schistosity. Piattoni tiles are approx. 1.6 cm thick and weigh between 60 and 95 kg/m2 depending on their size. Piodas are the ideal complement for contemporary buildings, but Piattoni are more suitable for traditional alpine or rustic country dwellings with stone walls and wooden roof frames as such structures often have to support the weight of a heavy snowy mantle and enormous temperature swings. Piodas and Piattoni can also be produced in custom sizes and thicknesses on request.
Furnishings
Unusual blocks are chosen to create unique pieces with a natural, rough-hewn surface. Tables, benches, thresholds and sills, mantelpieces, bench tops, and giant flagstones or wall tiles can all be crafted from Serpentinoscisto.
The green colour of the stone and split-face finish are the perfect complement for a wide range of other materials. When combined with wood, the effect is typically alpine. However, Serpentinoscisto is also very much at home in contemporary decors, especially in conjunction with steel and glass.
Spaccatello tiles
Irregular slabs of Serpentinoscisto with a split-face finish, suitable for interior and exterior applications.
Variable thicknesses (0.5-1 cm), sawn edges. The most commonly requested dimensions are 15×31 and 6×20 cm. Spaccatellos can also be produced in other dimensions, such as 6×20, 10×31, 12×24, 25×31, 20×40 and 30×30 cm.
Spacco crazy paving
Off-cuts from slabs used to make Piodas, of a suitable size and thickness for crazy paving or wall facing.
Massello cobblestones
Used for paving pedestrian and trafficked areas. Various laying patterns are possible, such as converging arches, parallel, concentric circles and fans.
Massellos feature two or four sawn faces, according to their size. They are approx. 5-6 cm thick. Standard formats are 15×15, 10×10, 8×8 and 6×6 cm.
Smolleri tiles
Paving material suitable for trafficked and pedestrian areas. Can be cut with or against the grain. Thickness: 5-10 cm, height 5-10 cm.
Cordoli curbstones
Principally used for curbing. Thickness: 8-10 cm, height 20-25 cm. Present two split faces and two sawn faces.
Pioda cooking stones
Serpentinoscisto constitutes an excellent cooking material, due to its high thermal resistance. Pioda cooking stones are suitable for cooking a wide range of foods, including meat, fish and vegetables.
When using the Pioda for the first time, the cooking surface should be rubbed with animal or vegetable fat in order to accentuate the stone’s properties. The stone should always be heated gradually.
Pioda cooking stones have a unique ability to draw out and enhance the flavour and aroma of foods.
Stufa wood-burning stoves
Serpentinoscisto’s thermal properties are also put to use for cladding cast iron wood-burning stoves.
Serpentinoscisto has an outstanding ability to accumulate heat, which it continues to release for some considerable time after the fire has gone out.
We currently have one model of wood-burning stove available in a range of sizes. Seating and other furnishing elements can be incorporated on request. Each piece is carefully crafted and the Stufas are all numbered. Bespoke stoves can also be made on request.
